About D100EDN8

The D100EDN8 PLC is an expansion module controller, manufactured by the Eaton Cutler-Hammer product line as part of the D100 series of modules.  It is powered by an Alternating Current (AC) between 115 and 250 Volts and has power ratings of 20 Amperes to 40 Amperes. This is an I/O module, and as such possesses 8 output LEDs.  Similarly all the controllers in the D100 series, the D100EDN8 has a memory of 1K with a scan time per memory of 8 milliseconds; it is also equipped with 16 timers and controllers. The D100EDN8 weighs approximately 0.56  kilograms, is black and silver in color, and has dimensions of approximately 20 x 10 centimeters. The D100 series of modules manufactured by Cutler-Hammer can be programmed by a hand-held programmer that has an LED display. The memory of the D100EDN8 can also be altered directly from a personal computer, which must be connected through an expansion outlet cable. This module is also fitted with Transistor Output for analog adaptability.

The D100EDN8, similarly to all the family members of the D100 series, is a standalone system, equipped all the functionalities of a computing system, including an input, an output, a RAM memory, a power supply, and LEDs for troubleshooting and error corrections. The D100 series modules are classified as either controllers or expanders;  the D100EDN8 module falls into the category of an expansion unit. During the installation of the expansion module D100EDN8, note that in the environment of operation, this module is sensitive to the surrounding humidity, temperature, and vibrations, as well as to exposure to other rough weather elements; this module should, therefore, be mounted in a protective enclosure that is suitable to the industry for which this module is intended. Whenever an expansion unit of D100EDN8 is used with a controller, the total number of inputs and outputs should be put into consideration so as not to exceed the maximum allowed. The length of the cables used for expansion should be short, so as to facilitate high speed of counts; units should also be set either vertically or horizontally depending on physical limitation and wiring for simplicity. In addition to all these installation requirements, strict adherence to the manufacturers’ manual and specifications should be kept at all times.
