The Cutler-Hammer D100 family of Micro Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), which includes the D100EE14, are small, cost-effective units that can be used in an assorted range of applications and environments. Each unit is a stand-alone PLC and contains a power supply, extensive memory, and input and output circuitry with terminals, as well as a Central Processing Unit (CPU). Each controller also has a 1K RAM memory and a backup battery. This D100EE14 Micro PLC utilizes true ladder logic programming, can expand from 14 I/O up to 120 I/O, has a large LCD screen that displays the power flow while it is running, and a programmer that can display eight rungs of logic at a time. Inside each controller are memory units called PROMS (Programmable Read Only Memories), which are used to store and record programs.
These PROMs can transmit a program to a far-way location in order to change the way a system operates; these PROMs can rerun a program for use in repetitive tasks, such as in some equipment performing the same operations. They can also store programs (as a backup) for quick retrieval, should there be any accidental or intentional loss. These PROMS are available in two categories: EEPROM (Electrically Erasable Programmable Read Only Memories) and UVPROM (UltraViolet erasable Programmable Read Only Memories). The former can be erased by the programmer or software, while the latter only by an ultraviolet light source. The D100EE14 is an unmounted electronically changeable EEPROM, which can be programmed and used in only in the D100 14 I/O controller. It cannot be used in any other type of controller and it plugs into a socket in the controller, after the cover has been removed in order to allow access the socket.
